  • Parking

Fri 04 Nov 2016 Mr Bright

We are fortunate that the Talbot Village Trust permit the use of their car park. A number of schools locally do not have parking provision for parents.

In recent weeks we have received a number of complaints regarding inconsiderate parking. Not only does this cause inconvenience, it does pose a potential risk to safety.

This morning we put some 'no waiting' cones down the lane in order to highlight the double yellow lines. You can see the success of this from the picture below. Whilst we appreciate that parking can be difficult, we do rely on people parking reasonably, so that traffic can circulate as freely as possible.

With the weather not being great, I did go to help the flow of traffic - not helped by those parked inconsiderately.

Thank you to those of you who were pleasant to me and supportive of the necessary 'stop-starting' to free up the flow of traffic.

  • Measles alert for South West England

Tue 01 Nov 2016 Mr Bright

The following information has been released today by The Village Surgery, Talbot Village. We currently have no reported cases in school.

    MEASLES OUTBREAK

There is currently a measles outbreak in South West England and we are taking steps to minimise the risks to our patients.

The signs of measles are as follows:

    • Fever followed by a cough, runny nose and sometime conjunctivitis.
    • Spots which usually appear during the first stage of the illness.
    • A rash which starts on day 3-4 initially in the hair line which then spreads to the face, trunk and limbs.
    • The fever persists once the rash has disappeared.

If you have a rash and feel very unwell - DON'T come to the surgery, walk-in centre or the local A&E departments.  CALL AHEAD, that way if you do have measles, you won't pass it on to others and we can give you advice on what to do.

  • School Games Mark - Silver award!

Tue 01 Nov 2016 Mr Bright
Prior to half term, Mr Vacher had a meeting regarding our Sainsbury's School Games mark and we are delighted that they have raised our rating to a Silver level from bronze (yay!). During the meeting we were advised that we are well on to achieving a Gold level which would be brilliant. Thank you to everyone involved in our sporting successes.
  • Flu vaccination Y1-3

Mon 24 Oct 2016 Mr Bright

You may have heard in the news that the NHS will be offering free 'flu' vaccines for children in Years 1-3.

We have been advised that our vaccinations will happen on Thursday 24th November. We have yet to receive letters or permission slips from NHS England. Once we have these, we will, of course, send them to you to give you more details of the programme and your option to opt in or out.

Children aged 2, 3 or 4, can access the vaccination through their GP surgery.

In the meantime, details regarding the nasal vaccination programme can be found on the NHS website:

  • Lockdown practice Tues 18/10/16

Mon 17 Oct 2016 Mr Bright

Today we have talked to the children about a 'lockdown' policy for the school. They know that at 9am tomorrow we are going to practise this. Please be assured that this is a 'pretend' drill and we will close this with our termly fire drill. We have likened this policy to the gorilla escaping at London Zoo last week and all the visitors having to be locked in the café for a while. Please reassure your children that there is nothing to worry about tomorrow.

In the newsletter on Friday we will tell you more about this and let you know how our practice went. Thank you for your support.

  • Haiti Disater Fund Mufti Day and Harvest Festival

Mon 10 Oct 2016 Mr Bright

Year 4 will be leading our Harvest Festival worship this Thursday and Friday at 2.15pm in the church.  All are welcome.

Our Harvest collection this year will be in aid of the Haiti disaster fund and on Friday 14 October we will have a mufti day in support of the Save the Children collection.  The details are below:-

Hurricane Matthew, a Category 4 storm, slammed the southern coast of Haiti on Tuesday morning with winds of 145 mph, flooding and extensive damage.  In Haiti, the estimates are that over 800 people were killed.  Officials reported some 28,000 homes were damaged and up to 130,000 children are estimated to be out of school.  In total, up to five million people are estimated to be affected and the government has said that up to 350,000 people require immediate assistance.

Save the Children's work in Haiti spans more than 40 years supporting 131 schools, including 27 in the departments of Sud and Grand'Anse and 39 in Port-au-Prince.  This past week, we deployed an Emergency Response Team and our Emergency Health Unit, staffed by doctors and health experts from around the world focusing on:

    • Cholera prevention and basic health services.
    • Setting up "child-friendly spaces" to provide children unable to go to school with a safe and protected space supported by trained staff, while their parents deal with the aftermath of the storm.
    • Stockpiling non-food items including hygiene kits, baby items, household kits, mosquito nets and jerry cans, which will be used in coming days.

    Please make your don

http://www.savethechildren.org.uk/about-us/emergencies/hurricane-matthewation directly to the fund using the link below and on our website:-

    Thank you.
