  • Celebrating our R.E. week achievements!

Fri 05 Apr 2019 Mr Bright

We had an amazing R.E. Week! We had the chance to reflect on how we can love our local and global community. We saw so much love in action and were inspired when learning about how different Religions love their communities.

Rupert led a wonderful worship about community. As you know, we had a visit from the local Christian Charity ‘Toilet Twinning’. Thank you for your kind and generous donations towards this cause. We are very excited to announce that we have raised £264.22, which is enough to twin our school toilet block with one in a poor community in Malawi. We also loved our local community by collecting an amazing minibus full of donations for Hope for Food! Thank you all for your generous support.

Here are a few highlights of the week:

    • Reception learnt about the Creation Story and discovered how people are polluting the sea. The children discussed what they can do to help care for God’s creation. They used recyclable materials and plastic to create an under the sea creature collage. They also visited Alex at the Church and helped her to build a fish tank from scratch! She then showed the children how rubbish could destroy an underwater environment.
    • Year 1 also visited Alex at the Church and served the community by singing at the Church Lent Lunch.
    • Year 2 had a visit from Mrs Bonds to learn about the Hindu teachings of community and providing for others. Year 2 loved learning about an inspirational Hindu leader who shared with his community. The children have planted tomato plants and are planning to take their plants to the Community Garden Hub.
    • Year 3 learnt about some Paralympic sports such as curling and boccia. They reflected on disability and vulnerable groups and thought about how the community can care for them. They looked at the Liveability Charity.
    • Year 4 explored community in Sikhism and thought about homelessness in our local community. They worked so hard to make friendship bracelets to sell and raised an amazing £205.20 and they plan to present the money to David Chidwick in from Sleepsafe who kindly came to talk about how churches support homeless people. £25 pays for a bed for the night!
    • Year 5 visited the Orthodox Jewish Synagogue in Bournemouth and made beautiful felt animals inspired by the story of Noah’s Ark. They raised an amazing £102.45 from the sale! They plan to give the money to the Synagogue.
    • Year 6 learnt about Malala Yousafzai and were visited by Dr Hammadi, a lecturer at Bournemouth University, and raised a fabulous £97.91 selling second hand books. The children learnt about children around the world who have no access to education, and have donated the money to the Malala Fund.
    •

Well done for everyone’s hard work and enthusiasm during our community week. It has been so rewarding to know we have been able to support local and global communities with our fundraising.

  • Y3 Kingston Lacy trip postponed

Wed 03 Apr 2019 Mr Bright

Reluctantly, we have decided to postpone the trip to Kingston Lacy tomorrow, as the weather forecast is very poor. All of the activities we have planned are outside; soggy sandwiches, shivering children and muddy clothes are unlikely to bring about a positive learning experience!

We are pleased to announce that we have now rearranged the trip for Friday 10 May.

For full details, please see the letter sent to Y3 parents today.

  • Hope For Food Collection

Tue 19 Mar 2019 Mr Bright

A huge THANK YOU and WELL DONE to everyone who contributed to the Hope For Food collection last week. We did an amazing job, collecting over 500 items of food and drink to support the charity's work in our local community.

They were thrilled this morning when they came to collect our donations.

    Thank you again.

  • World Book Day

Thu 07 Mar 2019 Mr Bright

    It's World Book Day!

The children (and staff!) look fantastic in their costumes. Thank you to everyone for all their efforts sourcing costumes. The children are enjoying their day of book-related activities and have already loved sharing books with their buddies and partner classes.

Children will each be bringing a special WBD £1 token home. These can be used to reduce the price of books or can be swapped for the special £1 WBD texts... see books and check Ts&Cs here https://www.worldbookday.com/books/

    Happy reading everyone!

  • Shrove Tuesday

Tue 05 Mar 2019 Mr Bright

Today we are celebrating the Christian tradition of using up rich/fatty/sweet foods in preparation for Lent.

We offered each child a pancake as their dessert for lunch today, which they thoroughly enjoyed!

  • 'Love our community!' food collection

Mon 04 Mar 2019 Mr Bright

Next week, w/c 11 March, is our Religious Education Week commencing Monday. The theme is ‘love our community’.

Each Year group will be making links between a faith story or text and how people live in community.
The children will have a chance to ask a visitor how they put their beliefs into practice in our community. Pupils will also reflect on the needs of their local and global community and articulate their own responses.
Reception will be thinking about Creation and they will be making an art collage. We would be very happy to receive donations of materials such as bottle tops, card and paper.

Hope for Food is a Bournemouth based charity that provides soup kitchens and food packages in our local community for vulnerable or homeless families. We have been in contact with Hope for Food to see what they are in need of. If you would like to donate, please do but it is not compulsory. Let’s see how much we can collect!

Each Year group has been assigned something to bring in. Please bring your items into your class by Thursday the 15 March at 8:30am.

    Reception: Cereal
    Year 1: Rice and pasta
Year 2: Biscuits - sweet and savoury
Year 3: Long life milk and sugar
    Year 4: Tea and coffee
Year 5: Sauce for pasta / stirfry / curry
Year 6: Tinned food - pasta, veg, meat and fish
    Staff: Squash and fruit juice

    Thank you!

  • Parking at pick-up today

Fri 08 Feb 2019 Mr Bright

Thank you to everyone for their understanding and co-operation at pick-up this afternoon. With a significantly increased number of cars in use due to the poor weather, vehicles were, at one point, nose-to-tail around the car park, so we had to ask drivers to circulate back to the roundabout. Whilst not ideal, and a cause of frustration to some, it was the only way to allow traffic to circulate. Fortunately, without obstructive parking on the lane, the flow of cars was smooth and unhindered – thank you for continuing to observe the No Parking signs.

Parking will always be a challenge at pick-up time as we physically do not have sufficient spaces for the number of cars collecting. We continue to rely on your support and co-operation to allow everyone to safely collect their children.

    Thank you.
